But the artists obviously went to suuuch lengths to make each lion completely recognizable from one another. That old adage about being able to recognize a character even with their colors and features changed is in full effect in the art.
So it smarts when someone’s “fan character” is so painfully a recolored Sarabi. You can even tell from the silhouettes which character is which, that’s how different their designs are.
That might be why TLK 2 pisses me off so much, too. They practically used Nala’s model to do Kiara, and Kovu looks waaay too much like just chocolate-colored Simba, build-wise, features-wise, everything. It disturbs me that people actually think he looks like Scar. He’s chocolate Simba.
Oh, and mouth-on-mouth lion kisses. That’s another thing that pisses me off about TLK 2. Seriously what is with that. Why would they put any personal emphasis on mouth contact, they don’t even have lips.

I have such involved headcanons regarding TLK characters as humans
With tribal politics and shit
Kind of like the musical, but way more involved
I kind of really want to do a series on it, but I don’t know if that would be too 12-year-old-on-deviantART of me.](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1p8d1XW7p1rrq8c9o1_500.jpg)

I guess the art/animation is good or something
But sweet Jesus
In what universe do the characters look like that?
This character’s gold? How about muddy brown
This character’s red? Let’s tryyy muddy brown.
Blue? …What the Hell; muddy brown.
All the colors
Muddy brown
Seriously, some of the general draw of the first one was the incredibly vibrant, tribal sort of colors and style. The second one seemed to sort of forget that bit, and just made a straight-up movie about lions without any of the stylistic elements that made the first one memorable.

Oh yes, the Ring can corrupt. But you can either destroy it or become Gollum.
OMG
I saw the Legolas gif, and that was good enough
But then I scrolled down and saw the Rafiki gif
